FULTON FERRY STATE PARK

Excerpt from Fulton Ferry State Park Live Remix – A live performance/sound piece for “Intervistas,” an outdoor sculpture show at Fulton Ferry State Park, in Dumbo, Brooklyn, NY, working with sounds, both ‘urban’ and ‘natural,’ such as trains overhead on the Manhattan Bridge, birds in the park’s flora, the sound of the East River lapping against the shore, the footsteps of visitors as they enter the park by footpath, the voice of the park ranger describing the park and its inhabitants. I mic'ed and remixed certain sounds, selectively amplifying and altering their layering and texture, adding delays, reverb, pans, etc. Length: 45 minutes.

Urban Wildlife Replacement Systems

Excerpt from Urban Wildlife Replacement Systems – 10”w x 12”d x 8’h. Sound sculpture installed at Franconia Sculpture Park, Shafer, Minnesota. Urban sounds, collected and mixed into 11-minute loop. Two walkmans, portable speakers, cassette tapes, 2 birdhouses (wood, hardware, paint). I recorded sounds of a cityscape, remixed and then de-contextualized them—to leave them recognizable but miniaturized, mimicking and interweaving with the natural sounds of a field.

Basketball Was Her First Love

Excerpt from eight-minute single-channel video installation. The sounds of one player practicing; words cross the screen, fast enough to make the viewer work to read them. Memory, emotion, the residue of experience: movement, a way to rework gravity, to remake oneself.

A Few Days

  • Excerpt from A Few Days – 7-minute performance. I rode a bicycle in circles, a walkman and portable speakers around my waist, the walkman wired to a bicycle headlamp halogen generator. Pedaling generated the sound of my mother's voice, a narrative culled from cassette-tape letters exchanged during her illness from Multiple Sclerosis.
